The Pest - Storyboarding Animatic
This is a fantasy/comedy animatic created during the RPBS Summer 2024 storyboarding workshop, based on an original script by Rob Porter. I reimagined the assignment in a modern fantasy world inspired by tabletop RPG settings and films like “Onward.” The story follows Tommy, a tiefling pest control worker trying to finish one last job before his daughter Clemmy’s birthday party. What begins as a routine pest call at a hobbit family’s home quickly turns into a confrontation with a baby griffon, forcing Tommy to face a traumatic childhood memory tied to the creature. This project focused on cinematic storytelling through shot composition, suspense, character acting, continuity, and emotional pacing. I especially wanted to explore the contrast between comedy tension and the softer emotional themes of fear, memory, and empathy. Blobo tells us about a little being who has no shape of his own and tries to adapt to survive. Blobo is a shape-shifting creature born on a flower-shaped planet, it's about life's challenges, spirituality, and perseverance. Each petal of this planet presents a unique challenge. As Blobo navigates these challenges, he learns to overcome obstacles, guided by ethereal spirit mentors, eventually reaching his star and new beginning. his star, symbolizing new beginnings and the resilience of the human spirit.
This 2D animated tale explores themes of spirituality, the circle of life, and the importance of resilience in the face of adversity. With a focus on inspiring and guiding children, it encourages them to keep moving forward, teaching essential life lessons about determination, resilience, and the beauty of life's journey.the beauty of life's journey.
